EMBODIED THERAPY

Areas of Support

At Embodied Therapy, we support teens and adults navigating eating disorders, trauma, ADHD, autism, anxiety, and the ways these experiences often overlap. We are especially affirming of LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent individuals seeking care that honors their full experience. Explore the areas below to find what resonates.

Eating Disorders

Does food take up more space in your head than anything else in your life, & you have never known how to say that out loud?

Eating disorders are survival strategies that made sense once. Ways of controlling something when everything else felt out of control. Ways of quieting a noise that never seemed to stop. If your relationship with food and your body is quietly running your entire life, you deserve support. Not when it gets worse. Not when a doctor decides you finally look sick enough. Now.

Trauma & Complex PTSD

What if what happened to you does not feel like “real” trauma, but your body has never fully recovered?

Trauma does not always come from one defining moment. Sometimes it is years of being dismissed, belittled, or asked to need less than you did. Sometimes it is a body that stayed on high alert long after the threat was gone. You might not even have a name for it. That is okay. Allison will help you find the words, and more importantly, help your nervous system finally find some rest.

Teen Issues

What if your teen is struggling & every time you try to help, it makes things worse?

The teenage years are supposed to be hard. But there is a difference between hard & quietly falling apart. Whether your teen is shutting down, lashing out, skipping meals, isolating, or just not themselves anymore, something is going on beneath the surface. At Embodied Therapy, we work with teens who feel misunderstood by the adults around them and with families trying to figure out how to reach someone who has stopped letting them in.

Parent Support

What if you are doing everything you can think of and it still does not feel like enough?

Watching your child struggle is one of the hardest things a parent can experience. The fear, the helplessness, the second-guessing every decision you have ever made. Embodied Therapy works with parents & caregivers who are exhausted from trying to hold the house together. We are not here to tell you what you did wrong. We are here to help you figure out what your kid actually needs, and how to show up for them without losing yourself in the process.

ADHD

What if your brain has never worked the way everyone told you it should, and you are exhausted from pretending otherwise?

ADHD is an attentional difference, not an attentional deficit. It can hyperfocus for hours on the right thing and completely shut down on the wrong one. It often gets labeled lazy or careless when the individual is actually working incredibly hard just to keep up. Embodied Therapy works with people who are tired of strategies that were designed for someone else’s brain. We will help you figure out what actually works for yours.

Autism

Are you tired of feeling misunderstood by a world that seems to expect you to navigate life differently than you naturally do?

For many autistic individuals, the hardest part is not being autistic. It is carrying the weight of feeling unseen, misunderstood, or pressured to fit into environments that do not accommodate their needs. Over time, that can lead to burnout, anxiety, shame, and disconnection from yourself. Embodied Therapy provides a supportive, affirming space where masking is not required and where your where your way of experiencing the world is understood rather than measured against a neurotypical standard.

Religious Trauma

Have you spent years being told that who you are is something that needs to be fixed or hidden?

Religious trauma is not always dramatic. Sometimes it is the slow accumulation of being taught that your worthiness is conditional. Sometimes it is the specific wound of having your LGBTQIA+ identity treated as a sin by people who claimed to love you. Embodied Therapy makes room for the grief, the rage, and the parts you are not sure you are allowed to miss.

Anxiety

Have you gotten so good at managing everything that nobody realizes how hard you’re working just to stay afloat?

Anxiety is often easy to miss when you’re high functioning. From the outside, it can look like success, responsibility, and having it all together. You’re the one people rely on. The one who remembers everything. The one who anticipates problems before they happen. But underneath that competence is often a nervous system that never gets to rest. A mind that is constantly scanning for what could go wrong. A body that struggles to relax, even when there is nothing urgent to do. The pressure to stay ahead of everything can become exhausting. At Embodied Therapy, Allison helps people move beyond simply managing anxiety.

Chronic Pain, EDS, POTS, & Disability

Has your body felt like a battleground for so long that you have stopped trusting it entirely?

Living with chronic pain, a connective tissue disorder, or dysautonomia changes how you see yourself, how you move through the world, and how much you dare to hope for. It also means navigating a medical system that has often refused to believe you, and the particular exhaustion of that. Embodied Therapy makes space for all of it. The anger, the loss, the complicated relationship with a body that has not cooperated, and the slow work of finding a way to live fully inside it anyway.

LGBTQIA+ & Marginalized Identities

What would it feel like to sit with a therapist who already gets it, so you never have to explain or defend who you are?

Being LGBTQIA+ in a world still built around straightness and cisgender normativity is its own kind of exhausting. The constant calibration. The vigilance. The specific grief of rooms that were not made for you. At Embodied Therapy, your identity is not something to be carefully navigated in sessions. It is just part of who you are. The work can start where it actually needs to start.

Self-Harm

What if the way you have been coping is the one thing you are most afraid to say out loud?

Self-harm is almost never what people assume it is. It is usually about pain that had nowhere else to go. A way to feel something when you felt nothing, or to stop feeling something when it became too much. Embodied Therapy will not shame you for how you have been surviving. We will work with you to understand what it has been doing for you, & to find something that works better without stripping away your sense of control.

Depression

Have you been carrying on with life so well that nobody realizes how much of you has quietly disappeared?

Depression does not always look like sadness. Sometimes it looks like feeling disconnected from yourself, your relationships, or the things that used to matter. Sometimes it looks like moving through your days on autopilot, getting done what needs to get done while feeling increasingly numb, exhausted, or distant underneath it all. Many people spend a long time wondering if what they are experiencing is “bad enough” to count as depression because they are still functioning. Still showing up. Still taking care of everyone else. But carrying that weight day after day can be incredibly lonely. At Embodied Therapy, there is no expectation that you have to explain your pain perfectly or prove that you are struggling.

Perfectionism

What if the standard you hold yourself to is making you miserable?

Perfectionism looks like an asset from the outside. High achievement, attention to detail, never dropping the ball. But it usually comes from a much older & much less peaceful story. One about only being acceptable if you are excellent. Embodied Therapy works with people who are worn down by their own inner critic & ready to understand where that standard actually came from, and what it would feel like to finally put it down.

Identity Exploration & Unmasking

What if you have spent so long being who everyone needed you to be that you are not sure who is actually underneath?

Unmasking is not a single moment. It is a slow, sometimes terrifying process of figuring out which parts of yourself are real & which ones you built to survive. Embodied Therapy works with people who are ready to start asking those questions, even when the answers feel uncertain or keep changing.

High-Achieving Burnout

What if you have done everything right & still feel completely empty?

Burnout in high achievers often comes with a quiet layer of shame. You have the career, the capability, the ability to keep going. And yet something underneath is not okay. Allison works with clients who are exhausted by their own competence & ready to figure out what they actually need, not just what they can sustain.

Systemic Oppression & Minority Stress

What if the anxiety is not just in your head, but a completely reasonable response to a world that was not built for you?

Racism, fatphobia, ableism, homo & transphobia are not just social issues. They are stressors that live in the body & show up in mental health. Embodied Therapy holds space for the reality that healing cannot be separated from the systems that caused harm, & she will never ask you to do the work of healing while pretending those systems do not exist.
