Bonnie Hughes (she/her) is a graduate student in clinical mental health working toward hours for graduation. She works with adults, young adults, women, and couples who are ready to stop cycling through the same patterns and start understanding where those patterns actually came from. She works with people navigating substance use recovery, trauma, childhood wounds, grief, relationship struggles, and the deep, persistent belief that they are too far gone to actually change.
Her approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and honest. Bonnie does not believe in surface-level coping strategies that leave the root untouched. She helps clients understand the why behind their pain so they can stop managing symptoms and begin doing the actual work of healing. Clients leave with stronger boundaries, more confidence, healthier relationships, and the tools to sustain their own recovery long after therapy ends.

Clients often describe Bonnie as warm and easy to talk to, and also refreshingly honest. She does not skirt around the hard things. She walks alongside you through them. Sessions feel collaborative rather than prescriptive. You are not being told what to do. You are figuring it out together, with someone who is genuinely invested in where you land.
Bonnie also knows when to gently push. Growth that stays comfortable usually does not go very far, and she is not interested in therapy that only scratches the surface. She will encourage you to step into the difficult territory while making sure you never feel like you are doing it alone.
Sessions are virtual, which means you show up from wherever you are. Evenings and weekends are available, because healing should not have to wait until Monday at noon.
Bonnie brings two years of direct addiction counseling experience to her clinical work, including time in both correctional settings and residential substance use treatment. Much of that work was with women, including women inside the prison system and women in residential recovery, many of whom came from Native American communities and were navigating the compounded weight of trauma, addiction, generational grief, and the loss of custody of their children. That experience shaped how Bonnie understands what people are actually carrying when they walk into a therapy room.
She is completing her hours for her clinical mental health counseling degree at Embodied Therapy. Her work is supervised by Allison VanGordon, LPCC-S. Bonnie brings a culturally responsive, trauma-informed lens to everything she does, grounded in the belief that lasting change requires understanding where the pain started, not just managing how it shows up today.
Bonnie offers sliding scale rates, making quality mental health care accessible regardless of financial circumstances.
This practice is private pay. That means your care is guided by your needs, not insurance rules or diagnostic thresholds. But many clients are able to get reimbursed for a significant portion of each session through their out-of-network benefits. The Mentaya tool here makes it easy to check what your plan covers in just a few minutes.
