Clinical Supervision & Speaking

Ways We Can Work Together

I offer support for mental health professionals and organizations in two main ways. Whether you are navigating complex clinical work or looking to bring meaningful education to your team, we can collaborate in ways that are practical, thoughtful, and grounded in real-world care.

Allison VanGordon presenting on the intersection of trauma and neurodivergence.

Speaking & Professional Education

Workshops, trainings, talks for teams, programs, and organizations seeking deeper understanding of eating disorders, trauma, LGBTQIA+ care, neurodivergence, and anti-oppression practice. These sessions go beyond surface-level awareness and focus on how systems show up in real clinical and community settings.

Clinical Supervision & Case Consultation

Clinical supervision and consultation for pre-licensed counselors and licensed therapists who want to deepen their work with eating disorders, trauma, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and neurodivergent-informed practice while staying grounded in their values and wellbeing.

Speaking, Workshops, and Professional Education

Embodied Therapy with Allison offers workshops, trainings, and speaking engagements for conferences, treatment centers, group practices, universities, and community organizations seeking meaningful, applied education. Together, we explore how oppression, diet culture, and systems impact both clinical work and lived experience.

  • Workshops and clinical trainings
Half day and full day trainings for clinical teams on eating disorders, trauma, LGBTQIA+ care, and neurodivergent informed practice, with practical tools and case discussion.

  • Conference talks and keynotes
Engaging, content rich presentations for conferences and symposia that stay grounded in research, lived experience, and ethics rather than buzzwords.

  • Organizational and program consultation
Support for treatment centers and agencies who want to build or refine inclusive, weight-inclusive, HAES-aligned programs and anti-oppression frameworks across levels of care.

  • Graduate program and university lectures
Guest lectures and trainings for counseling, social work, and related programs on working with specialized populations and building liberation oriented practice from the start.

  • Continuing education sessions
Trainings for licensed clinicians who want to deepen skills in ED care, trauma, queer and trans affirming work, or neurodivergence across the lifespan.

  • Anti oppression frameworks in mental health and supervision

  • Weight--inclusive, HAES-aligned eating disorder treatment for all body sizes

  • LGBTQIA+ and gender affirming care, including diverse relationship structures

  • Neurodivergent informed therapy and making spaces truly accessible

  • Trauma-informed care, EMDR, somatic work, and parts work

  • Eating disorders and neurodivergence at the intersections

  • Religious and medical trauma, identity-based trauma, and minority stress

All topics can be adapted for clinicians, students, or mixed audiences.

My work as an educator sits at the intersection of lived experience and clinical training. I am a queer, neurodivergent therapist who has practiced in higher level eating disorder care, community mental health, and private practice, and I bring that full context with me when I teach. Presentations are research-informed, grounded in real clinical work, interactive, and always rooted in liberation rather than “inclusion as a buzzword.” Expect honesty, nuance, and space for complexity, not a polished script that ignores the realities of your setting.

Clinical Supervision & Case Consultation

Clinical supervision with me is collaborative, curious, and politically aware. I work with pre licensed counselors and licensed therapists who want to deepen their skills in eating disorders, trauma treatment, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and neurodivergent informed practice, while staying grounded in their own values and wellbeing.

Consultation is available virtually nationwide for clinicians who want support thinking through complex cases, systems questions, or program design. Supervision and consultation are collaborative spaces where curiosity, honesty, and care come first. You do not need to have everything figured out to show up.

other barriers to diagnosis, research, and treatment of eating disorders

  • Case consultation

Book consultation sessions for specific cases or clinical challenges.

Supervision is not a performance review. We examine cases through an anti-oppression lens, talk honestly about countertransference and parallel process, and make space for both your clinical wins and the places you feel unsure. Mistakes and stuck points are treated as material for learning, not shaming. My goal is for you to leave feeling more grounded in your judgment, clearer about options, and more resourced in your nervous system, not more depleted.

Supervision with me is also:

  • Social justice oriented: We look at how systems of oppression show up in our clients’ lives and in the therapy room, including supervision itself.

  • Developmental and strength-based: We start from where you are and build on what you already do well.

  • Trauma-informed: We pay attention to parallel process and your well-being, not just the client’s story.

  • Anti-perfectionist: Mistakes are expected. We approach them with curiosity, not criticism.

  • Culturally humble: I bring expertise in some areas and also know I will never know everything about your identities, lived experiences, or communities.

For PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT

Areas of Focus

Many of the clinicians and organizations I work with support clients at the intersections of eating disorders, trauma, queerness, and neurodivergence. My supervision and training center these realities rather than forcing people into narrow categories.

Why Work With Me?

“I will never ask you to shrink yourself to make others comfortable.” -Allison VanGordon, LPC

My work is grounded in liberation-focused, anti-oppression care that holds both people and systems in view.

Whether you are a clinician navigating complex cases or an educator shaping programs, policies, or training spaces, my role is to support thoughtful, ethical work that actually fits the people you serve.

I bring a clinical lens that centers eating disorders, trauma, neurodivergence, and LGBTQIA+ care, while staying practical and real-world. This is not about checking boxes or memorizing models. It is about building discernment, confidence, and care that holds up under pressure.

When we work together, you can expect:

So whether you are seeking supervision for one complex case or bringing me in to teach an entire group, my role is to be a thoughtful partner in the work.

Basing my approach on three core principles:

Care outside the system

Healing here is not determined by insurance requirements, BMI cutoffs, or diagnostic thresholds. You do not need to prove your suffering to receive meaningful support.

Identity is not the problem

Queerness, neurodivergence, and difference are not things to be corrected. Therapy here affirms identity and works with your nervous system rather than against it.

Compassion before change

Many coping strategies once served an important purpose. We take time to understand them with care before exploring what you are ready to shift.

Frequently Asked Questions

Start by filling out the contact form on this page and letting me know whether you’re interested in supervision, consultation, or a workshop or talk. Share a bit about your context and what you’re hoping for. I’ll follow up with next steps, including whether I’m the right fit and what working together could look like. There’s no obligation — it’s a conversation, not a commitment.

I work with individual clinicians, group practices, treatment programs, universities, and community organizations. If you’re doing direct care, training future therapists, or shaping how a system responds to eating disorders, trauma, LGBTQIA+ folks, or neurodivergent people, you’re in the right place.

Both. Some people see me regularly for clinical supervision. Others reach out for one-time or short term consultation around a specific case, program decision, or training need. We can talk about what makes the most sense for your capacity, your license requirements, and what you’re holding.

All of my professional offerings are virtual. Clinical supervision for pre-licensed clinicians is available to LMHCs in New Mexico, provided via a secure online platform. Consultation and education (workshops, trainings, and speaking) are available virtually to clinicians and organizations across the United States, which makes specialized support accessible even if you do not have local providers with this focus.

Absolutely. Eating disorders, trauma, and neurodivergence are never just “therapy issues.” I’m comfortable working with mixed groups of therapists, dietitians, medical providers, school staff, and administrators, and I’ll adjust language and focus so each group has something concrete to take away.

My work is grounded in body liberation, anti-oppression, and harm reduction. That means we name systemic forces like fatphobia, ableism, homophobia, and transphobia, and we look at how they show up in clinical work, not just in theory. I bring my expertise and lived experience into the room, and I also expect to keep learning from you and your communities. The goal is not perfection, but more honest, accountable, and liberatory practice.
